Influence of Media 5

This post focuses on “Representation” and what the word means in media. “Representation refers to the idea that everything we see/hear in the media has been constructed.” This can be seen in magazines, newspapers, radios, and other forms. For example, when news is being reported about a politician, it is a construct of that politician, not the real person. In representation, “codes” are also instrumental in media construction. Codes can range from language, color, clothing, and specific signs. In the instance of color, green may be associated with “environmentalism”, while pink is linked to femininity. These are some of the constructs behind color.

As it relates to my magazine, it will create a specific representation of my models. The use of photographs and color will create a specific representation of these models to a larger audience.

Influence of Media 4

In this post, I will talk about the "Media Reinforcement Theory". This proposes the media isn't completely liable for setting up as well as changing the convictions of individuals. This theory expresses that what is seen and got notification from the media just serves to additionally bolster your own convictions.

Reinforcement theory is a limited effects media model applicable within the realm of communication. The theory generally states that people seek out and remember information that provides cognitive support for their pre-existing attitudes and beliefs. The main assumption that guides this theory is that people do not like to be wrong and often feel uncomfortable when their beliefs are challenged.

Influence of Media 3

Good Evening Blog ,

In today’s post I will be discussing a third theory, the Agenda Setting Function Theory. In sum, this theory explains to us that the media can’t control the way we think, but on what exactly we think of. This theory stemmed from a study based on the 1968 Presidential Election in which a correlation found “between issues that voters believed were important and issues the media gave prominence to.“

I’d be able to apply this theory to my magazine by choosing which story to promote on the cover. Even though it may not be the most story throughout my entire magazine, it will APPEAR to be more important than the rest because it’s on the cover.

Influence of Media 2

Another theory created would be the Two-Step Flow Theory. This theory suggests that people are more likely to be influenced by another person than the mass media. The people influencing were known as ‘opinion leaders’. Two-Step Flow theory also believes that “audiences are active participants in the communication process.” hence the use of opinion leaders.

This theory is especially perfect for 2019’s modern society; with how strong of an influence  social media has on us. I could use this in my magazine by doing my interview portion on someone with a strong wide social media presence. In my interview I’d try and get them to speak good on the different body types portrayed in my photos and on LGBT , people loving anyone they want to.

Influence of Media

The media has always been seen as an influential tool when swaying the mindset of people. There have been many theories as to why media has such a strong effect on society. One of these theories is called the Hypodermic needle, which is a “liner communication theory which suggests that media messages are injected directly into the brain of a passive audience.”

These researchers believed that we had no individual differences , that we would all interpret the media messages in the same way.  This way of thinking only lasted about 10 years (1920s-1930s) until other researchers started to realize that this theory seemed to have a lot more limitations than actual usage.

Representation in Media

Media has been around for as long as anyone can remember. It’s just human nature for us to share mass messages with each other, especially in today’s current society. Just take a look at what’s going on right now; the President of the United States sends a tweet out within every hour for anyone with internet access to read.

However, humans haven’t always had the advantage of the internet. Throughout the years people had to think about the representation they were using for their message because that would affect the type of audience they had. Many researchers have come up with several different theories to explain the effect of media.

Practice Body Positivity Photoshoots

Over this past weekend I asked my cousin, Alexandra, for help with my magazine. When she found out all she would be doing was smiling and posing for me, she quickly jumped to her feet to help me.

We went to three different locations, the pool, beach and downtown. After my first couple of photos I realized that her body confidence made her one of the perfect options for my body positivity section.

Question 4: How did you integrate technologies in this project?
