The media has always been seen as an influential tool when swaying the mindset of people. There have been many theories as to why media has such a strong effect on society. One of these theories is called the Hypodermic needle, which is a “liner communication theory which suggests that media messages are injected directly into the brain of a passive audience.”
These researchers believed that we had no individual differences , that we would all interpret the media messages in the same way. This way of thinking only lasted about 10 years (1920s-1930s) until other researchers started to realize that this theory seemed to have a lot more limitations than actual usage.
